There is something about being a new parent that overrides anything else in a person’s mind; your only thoughts are how best to make sure the new little person can survive and thrive in whatever environment and circumstances life throws at you. In this instance, Apocalypse Girl and I were totally agreed that it was best for the Baby to stay here, at The Hotel, while we explored Perth. We were only a couple of days travel away from the city and waiting for the arrival of Survivor and The Lad, planning to search out survivors and, hopefully, whatever underground facility Perth had to offer.

I was personally a little concerned over the news that Survivor had told me when we had first encountered one another; a sinister cult that was happily sacrificing other survivors had taken control of the southern portion of the city. I’d been hoping that they’d already been dealt with but was considering how to manage if they had not… All the while, spending time with this tiny human that I’d created with Apocalypse Girl. Part of me, I know, was secretly hoping that my friends from the Sanctuary would not arrive any time soon so that we could spend a little more time with our daughter.

Shortly before lunchtime they arrived, though, and introductions were made. Survivor was amazed at the sheer number of people that had taken up residence in The Hotel, themselves survivors of Aurora, and The Lad seemed terrified of all the new folks; half-hiding behind his older friend as she greeted everybody.

Officer Friendly had decided to join our expedition, gathering supplies for a lengthy journey from among those scavenged from the underground city below us. Viking had initially wanted to come with us, as well, but Valkyrie insisted on staying behind to make sure the Baby was taken care of, so he remained, vowing to make certain The Hotel was well fortified by the time we returned.
